Hiram Bingham
Machu Picchu
A voyage to the lost city of Machu Picchu Peru
An epic Inca journey awaits guests aboard Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train. Travelling to the Lost City of Machu Picchu in celebratory style, guests board at Poroy, just outside Cusco, or at Rio Sagrado, A Belmond Hotel in the Sacred Valley, and embark on a cinematic journey through the Urubamba Valley and into the Andes mountains. As they enjoy a sumptuous brunch or lunch of Peruvian specialities, they look out over rock formations and lush vegetation, vast mountains and agricultural plains, valleys of roaming llamas and ancient, red-roofed towns, all thrillingly absorbed from the open-air observation car. Arriving at the ancient citadel, a private tour reveals its mystical wonders, after which afternoon tea is served at Sanctuary Lodge, A Belmond Hotel.
Named after the explorer who rediscovered the Inca citadel in 1911, the Hiram Bingham’s elegance is felt in plush upholstery, antique fittings and dark wood veneer that blends seamlessly with handwoven Peruvian textiles. In the bar car, cocktails and local artisanal drinks flow freely to the rhythm of live music. The train’s leisurely pace means the 57-mile route takes around 3.5 hours in each direction, giving ample time to soak up both the views and the ambience on board. Return journeys include a four-course, South American-inspired feast accompanied by regional wines.
Groups can reserve an individual carriage, or charter the entire train for a bespoke celebration with customised menus and entertainment for up to 84 guests. There are also options to combine a journey with a stay at Rio Sagrado, which has its own train stop, or linger longer at the citadel with a night at Sanctuary Lodge.
