Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab Dubai, UAE
Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab Jumeirah Beach – Dubai
Dubai has a particular confidence these days. It’s no longer all about the headline-grabbing, sky-piercing bravado that first captured the world's attention. Instead, the destination has matured and become more nuanced. Marsa Al Arab is emblematic of that evolution, a property that’s every bit as striking as you might expect, yet increasingly focused on the details that stay with you long after the architecture has made its first impression.
Beyond the scale and glamour, what struck me most was the ease of it all. The small salons scattered throughout one side of the yacht-shaped architecture from reception became our favourite places to pause during the day, offering elegant yet relaxed pockets of calm with impeccable service. Staff seemed to possess that rare ability to anticipate your every whim. More than anything, it was a real sense of warmth that made every interaction feel authentic and heartfelt.
These thoughtful salons embody the kind of luxury that Dubai increasingly does so well. They felt like sophisticated living rooms overlooking one of the most dynamic cities in the world. Sitting there, watching the light dance across the Gulf and the Burj Al Arab beyond, conversations seemed to stretch out and it was easier than usual to stay present with the sense of awe that makes travel so absorbing.
That’s probably why Dubai is my favourite place. It’s a city that constantly reinvents itself, yet somehow never loses its ability to make you feel welcome. Set in a breathtaking position between the desert and the sea, the soaring skyline reaches ambitiously for the future.
Like all the best places, it’s the feeling that draws me back time and again. The warmth of the people, the flawless service that has become a hallmark of the city, the thrilling atmosphere of possibility, and the way every visit feels both comfortingly familiar and excitingly novel. Marsa Al Arab captures all of this beautifully. It is a reflection of the city’s coming of age: sophisticated, welcoming and always looking forwards.
The hotel is so new that, as we arrived, even our Etihad driver was still getting acquainted with it. As we swept in from Abu Dhabi in the early hours, we circled the imposing structure a few times before finally finding our way to the entrance. It was almost endearing, a reminder that the hotel is still finding its place in Dubai, even as it already feels destined to become one of its defining landmarks.
By the time we pulled up beneath the porte-cochère, it was close to 3am. We were all exhausted and more than ready for bed. We were welcomed by the reception team with bottles of water, and I couldn't help wishing for something with a little more sense of place, perhaps the lemon and mint cooler that normally welcomes our arrival in the Gulf. The chilled flannels, however, were a welcome touch after the long journey.
While the welcome was gracious, the formalities could have been handled more a little more elegantly. In a hotel that otherwise excels at anticipating guests' needs, it was jarring to go through check-in registration in the lobby rather than in the comfort of our rooms. That said, the warmth of the welcome from the team more than compensated, leaving the impression of a hotel with a very promising future ahead.
We were escorted to our rooms through the hushed hotel while much of Dubai slept. The polished corridors were bathed in soft light and there was a palpable sense of anticipation in the air. First impressions matter, and despite the slightly protracted check-in, it was clear we had arrived somewhere special. As the doors opened and we finally stepped inside, the fatigue of the journey began to fade, replaced by the gentle excitement of being part of the newest chapter in Dubai's ever-evolving story.
We awoke in the morning and, with a touch of the bedside controls, the curtains glided silently apart and Dubai revealed itself in all its cinematic glory, the shimmering marina and resting yachts catching the soft morning light.
It was one of those moments that luxury hotels strive to create, the world unfolding at the touch of a button. Cocooned in comfort, we watched the city awaken. In that instant, the room came into its own. What had felt elegant and comfortable by night became even more captivating by day, with the view taking centre stage. A reminder that, in Dubai, spectacle is never far away.
Because we were travelling as a family of four, with both children now considered adults by hotel standards, it was necessary to book two rooms. Deciding to embrace the opportunity, we chose different views. It seemed a sensible plan at the time... then I opened the door to my Burj Al Arab View Room.
No matter how many times I visit Dubai, no matter how many viewpoints I discover, I never tire of the view of the Burj - its captivating silhouette rising from the Arabian Gulf like a mirage. From my balcony, it dominated the horizon in the most magnificent way. By day, its sail-shaped form seemed to hover above the sea; by night, it became an illuminated beacon against the darkening sky.
It was then that I knew I was exactly where I wanted to be. Throughout the years, so many of my favourite Dubai moments have happened with the Burj Al Arab in view. Standing at the end of Pier Chic, suspended above the water as the Gulf stretches towards the horizon. Lying on the beach at Madinat Jumeirah, almost hypnotised by its distinctive silhouette. Enjoying pre-dinner drinks on the veranda of Al Fayrooz Lounge at Al Qasr as the last light fades from the sky. Wandering along the waterways and pathways of Madinat Jumeirah, turning a corner to find the iconic sail framed between palms and Arabian arches.
My most memorable moments came long before sunrise - sitting on the balcony at 5.30am, watching the resort prepare for another day beneath a sky still tinted with the final shades of night. It was a choreography few people ever witness, and all the more beautiful for it. The Burj Al Arab stood silently beyond, watching over it all while the first hints of gold began to creep across the horizon. As the sun rose and illuminated the sea, the view transformed once again. And sitting there, suspended between the stillness of night and the promise of a new day, I felt a transcendent sense of connection to this incredible place.
Breakfast at Marsa Al Arab is a dazzling reminder that in Dubai, more is more. The choice is quite simply extraordinary. There are pastries so buttery they shatter at the slightest touch, vibrant bowls of exotic fruits, Middle Eastern favourites, Asian specialities and chefs enthusiastically preparing dishes to order. Every morning brought a fresh dilemma: whether to revisit a favourite or venture into yet another culinary corner I hadn't explored yet.
Despite considering myself a fairly traditional breakfast person, I found myself pairing a made-to-order omelette with teriyaki meatballs skewers. Only here could such an unlikely combination feel natural, even before 9am. What impressed me most was that it felt abundant but not excessive, thanks to the quality and thought behind every display.
By the second morning, I had accepted defeat. There was no strategy capable of mastering this breakfast. Like so much at Marsa Al Arab, breakfast feels like an experience in itself, impossible to fully appreciate in a single visit. The only sensible approach was to embrace the adventure.
The Talise Spa is a sanctuary suspended above the city, where soft light filters through tranquil interiors, bathing you in a restorative energy away from the urban vibrance beyond.
My treatment began with a precise and deeply soothing facial. The therapist had a calm confidence, and as she worked her magic the outside world gradually receded. By the end, my skin looked brighter and I felt noticeably lighter, as though the treatment had also softened my spirit.
The massage that followed was every bit as memorable. It felt entirely tailored to me, with the expert therapist intuitively finding tired muscles I hadn't realised were carrying tension. Long, flowing movements encouraged complete relaxation, while the subtle fragrance of oils and the hushed atmosphere put me into a blissful, almost meditative state. For an hour or so, time became irrelevant and I was completely present in the moment. By the time it ended, I felt restored in the truest sense of the word.
Leaving the spa and stepping back into the bright Dubai sunshine, with the Burj Al Arab gleaming across the water, I experienced that familiar post-treatment sensation where everything seems just a little sharper, calmer and more beautiful than before, the sign of a truly exceptional spa experience.
For the first four days of the trip, I wasn't quite able to surrender to holiday mode. Work had travelled with me, and there were still emails to send, calls to take and deadlines to meet before I could properly switch off. As a result, I spent hours each day tucked away in one of the lovely salon spaces, laptop open, as the hotel gently bustled around me.Even when work was done, it became one of my favourite rituals.
Before long, my regular latte would appear almost as quickly as I had settled into my chair, often without me needing to ask. Somehow, the team always seemed to know exactly when another coffee was required. It was one of those small gestures that, when you're trying to navigate the final demands of work while everyone else is fully embracing holiday life, feels like an act of kindness every single time.
One member of the team in particular left a lasting impression. I won't name her, but she was a young woman from Nepal whose warmth and grace perfectly embodied the spirit of hospitality. There was nothing forced or rehearsed about her interactions; she was simply wonderful. What touched me most was that she went out of her way to find me before I left. She was due to have her day off on the day of our departure, and she wanted to say goodbye in person. It was such a simple gesture, but one that spoke volumes about the kind of people who make a hotel memorable. In the end, that is the luxury that stays with you. Not the marble, the views or the design, but the people.
As our stay drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on what makes a hotel truly memorable. Marsa Al Arab undoubtedly has the architecture, the restaurants, the wellness facilities and the views that have become synonymous with luxury here. Yet there is also a confidence to the hotel that embodies the spirit of Dubai: ambitious yet elegant, polished yet warm. Of course, there are still moments where a newer property is finding its flow, but these are far outweighed by the genuine enthusiasm of a team that clearly wants every guest to fall in love with the place as much as they have. And I did.
When I think back to my time there, I remember the small details: dawn breaking over the Burj Al Arab from my balcony; the sight of the resort gently awakening before sunrise; the perfectly timed arrival of another latte while I worked away in the salon; drinks with family as daylight softened into evening; and the unexpected gestures of kindness.
And that’s why Dubai draws me back year after year. Beyond the extraordinary hotels, the immaculate beaches and the ever-evolving skyline, it remains a city built on hospitality. It understands instinctively that luxury is, fundamentally, how you are made to feel.
Marsa Al Arab is the latest expression of that philosophy. Not flawless, but with a sense of soul. Before we left, I took one final look at the Burj Al Arab standing proudly against the Arabian Gulf. I couldn't help but think that Dubai has done it again, creating somewhere that leaves you planning your return before you've even departed.
